how bidding works

1. Lottery Drawings

  • Collectors may enter a knifemaker’s lottery if they intend to purchase a knife.

  • Each lottery knife will have a numbered sign-up sheet. Collectors will write their name and number in consecutive order.

  • Knifemakers will conduct their own lotteries at their individual tables using the random number generator at www.random.org.

  • Once a number is selected, the chosen collector will have the first opportunity to purchase the knife.

  • The collector will have 15 minutes to complete the purchase or decline.

  • If the selected collector declines or does not complete the purchase, another winner will be drawn.

  • This process will continue until the knife is sold.

  • The winning collector’s name will be written on an announcement card and displayed behind the corresponding knife and lottery sheet.

2. Open Bid Drawings

  • In an open bid, the knifemaker sets a starting price.

  • Collectors write down their bids consecutively, with each bid exceeding the previous bid.

  • All bids are visible to participants.

  • The highest (final) bidder is the winner.

  • Once lottery drawings conclude, open bids will close in staggered 15-minute increments.

  • Each knifemaker will be assigned a designated time to announce their open bid winner, as listed on the schedule.

3. Silent Drawings

  • In a silent drawing, collectors submit concealed bids.

  • The highest bidder is the winner.

  • Silent drawings will close in staggered intervals following the conclusion of open bids.

FAQ’s

  • In an open bid, the knifemaker sets a starting price and then collectors write down their bids consecutively, each bid outbidding the last bid. The highest bidder, which would be the last bidder, is the winner. It is open because other collectors can see all the previous bids made.

  • If you do not wish to purchase a knife you were drawn for, you can decline and another winner will be selected.
